Drugs in our Water Supply?
Mar 11th, 2008 by Michelle
I was watching the news this morning and found a report on drugs being passed into the water we drink. Basically here is a clip of what CNN is saying:
In a broad study still under way, fish collected in waterways near or in Chicago, Illinois; West Chester, Pennsylvania; Orlando, Florida; Dallas, Texas; and Phoenix, Arizona, have tested positive for an array of pharmaceuticals — analgesics, antibiotics, antidepressants, antihistamines, anti-hypertension drugs and anti-seizure medications.
So, Funny thought. I live in Fla so if I can’t refill my anti-depressents, do I just have a glass of water? lol BTW that was a joke, but it is scary to know that we are taking a wide array of drugs every day and don’t even know it! I am curious to know if using bottled spring water is any safer? The video posted on CNN states that even the filters we use at home can not remove these drugs from our water! Just thinking that we drink recycled sewer water is disturbing enough to me.

There are also traces of pesticides and chemical fertilizer in drinking water in many parts of the “developed” world!
We are ruining the planet for our children in so many ways…
I live in South Australia, Adelaide, and our water situation here is getting dire. There’s been a lot of talk about recycling sewer water and, although I know we have to preserve our water supply, the thought makes me shudder. Seems I’m not the only one repulsed by the idea and so we’re heading down the de-salinating sea water route instead. At least I hope that’s the way it goes because I don’t even want to shower in recycled sewer water let alone drink it! Though, I guess if I really thought about it, sea water is basically one big sewer outlet anyway. Best I don’t think about it!!
I agree with both of you. I would love to have a private well but then I wonder how safe the water would be still.
