Oyster Awareness and oyster joke from my son
Mar 22nd, 2008 by Michelle
My 11 year old son came up with this joke. “Why did the oysters cross the street? Because they were oysterizing.” He is begging me to write that lol so I thought I would share with you before I talk about the Oyster Aware website.
Living in Florida seafood and sushi are popular items to eat. With all the recent news on eating seafood from other countries and water quality, etc, I was happy to find this great website that talks about the potential danger to some people with weakened immune systems or who have diabetes or liver disease who consume the Vibrio vulnificus bacteria from eating raw oysters.
The Oyster Aware website talks about the symptoms of vibrio vulnificus and treatment options available if you become ill from eating raw or undercooked oysters. The website also has a link to help you determine if you are an “at risk” individual who should avoid eating raw or under cooked oysters. It also has a link to some oyster recipes that you can download. See Gulf oysters website for all the details!
